Cape May is located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey. The town is known for its long pristine beaches, lighthouse, and historic Victorian homes. Cape May possesses one of the country’s largest collections of 19th century framed buildings and is New Jersey’s jewel in the crown. Being at the tip of New Jersey, Cape May beaches provide excellent opportunities for sunrises and sunsets, long exposures, and beach life images. On this workshop, we will get out and make images of beautiful Cape May.

This tour is also a workshop, so there will be instruction on how to capture long exposure images, how to use bracketing to capture all the dynamic range in the image, how to blend bracketed images into realistic HDR files for further processing, and how to capture great images for conversion into B&W. Additionally, Geff Bourke, of RRPT, will be also leading a B&W image processing workshop! He will share his tips and tricks for creating dramatic B&W imagery. Here are some examples of his amazing B&W imagery of Cape May!

Itinerary:

Friday, November 15: We will meet at the hotel at 3:00PM. After introductions, our first priority will be to discuss how to maximize your image capture for B&W. We will then head out for some shooting. We will be out until after sunset, at which time the group will head to dinner. After dinner, participants will have some time to sort through their images to identify a few images for critique and conversion to B&W, during Saturday’s Tips and Tricks Workshop.

Saturday, November 16: We will be up and out early to capture sunrise. We will explore many of Cape May’s amazing locations throughout the morning. We will take a lunch break and then return back to the hotel for Tips and Tricks Workshop. The Workshop will start with Geff demonstrating his process. After the demonstration, participants will have some time to experiment on their images, with Geff and Denise available to assist with questions and provide constructive critique.

After the Workshop, we will head back out to explore more of Cape May, again, being out through sunset. After dinner, we will come back to the hotel and participants (who would like to) will have the opportunity to share their images with the group. This presentation is always fun and demonstrates how each of us see the same location so differently!

Sunday, November 17: We will get up for sunrise and head out to Wildwood Boardwalk to capture the boardwalk in early morning. The boardwalk provides all kinds of interesting subjects for image capture, including the opportunity to learn and practice panning, as locals will be out for their morning exercise.
